What is Fiberail Sdn Bhd's (FSB) network coverage?
Fiberail’s network currently spans 140,525 km of fibre optic core network, an increase from 138,293 km in 2006. The network rides along KTM's and Petronas' gas pipeline corridors respectively and stretches throughout the length of the peninsula with an additional network along the gas pipeline corridor to the east coast.


What types of services does FSB provide?
The company provides the backbone infrastructure in the form of dark fibre leasing, bandwidth services, Metro Ethernet, ancillary services and turnkey network solutions to Telco providers, managed network service providers, global operators, discounted voice operators and broadcasting operators.
 

How long has FSB been in business?
Fiberail Sdn Bhd has been in business since its incorporation in 1992 as a joint-venture between TM and Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTM) to provide telecommunication network-related services. In 2006, Fiberail purchased Petrofibre Network (M) Sdn Bhd, as a result of which, the latter became a shareholder in Fiberail.
 

Who are FSB's shareholders?
Fiberail’s shareholders are Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM), Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) and now includes Petrofibre Network (M) Sdn Bhd with a share ratio of 54:36:10 respectively.


What bandwidth services does FSB offer?
Fiberail provides digitaline services (bandwidth) to telecommunication companies, broadband providers and enterprises with the point-to-point transmission connectivity of voice, data and video using TDM-based network ranging from 2Mbps, 34Mbps, 45Mbps, STM-1 (155Mbps) to STM-16 (2.5Gbps).


Where is the fibre optic cable exactly located?
Fiberail owns three fibre optic cable networks installed along the railway and gas pipeline corridors from Padang Besar in Perlis to Johor Bahru and branches out from Gemas in Negeri Sembilan to Tumpat and Rantau Panjang in Kelantan. The network passes through almost all major and rural towns in Peninsular Malaysia. Fiberail’s network coverage extends to the East Coast particularly to Pahang and Terengganu via the Petronas gas pipeline corridor.


Where are the towers and cabins located?
The towers are located along the KTMB railway stations, namely Alor Setar, Sungai Petani, Butterworth, Bukit Mertajam, Parit Buntar, Bagan Serai, Taiping, Kuala Kangsar, sungai Siput, Ipoh, Kampar, Sungkai, Tanjung Malim, Rawang, Kajang, Batang Benar, Seremban, Tampin, Gemas, Segamat, Kluang, Plentong and Pasir Gudang.

Cabins are located along the railway corridor at Padang Besar, Alor Setar, Gurun, Sungai Petani, Butterworth, Bukit Mertajam, Nibong Tebal, Parit Buntar, Bagan Serai, Kuala Kangsar, Sungai Siput, Ipoh, Kampar, Sungkai, Tanjung Malim, Rawang, Kajang, Batang Benar, Seremban, Tampin, Gemas, Segamat, Labis, Bekok, Kluang, Sedenak, Plentong, Kemayan, Mentakab, Jerantut, Kerambit, Sungai Temau, Gua Musang, Kemubu, Kuala Krai and Tanah Merah.


How is the fibre optic network managed throughout the whole Peninsula Malaysia?
FSB employs the NMS and RFTS to do effective monitoring of the fibre optic network.


What is NMS? What is RFTS?
NMS means Network Management System and is used to monitor all FSB’s fibre optic equipment connected to the fiber optic network at various locations. RFTS refers to the Remote Fibre Test System that monitors the fibre optic cables, which enables faults to be detected at the exact location of the core. With both systems, FSB's network is efficiently monitored and faults are immediately and easily identified. Therefore restoration can be expeditiously completed in the shortest time.


What benefit do the NMS and RFTS bring to FSB’s customers?
Customers are assured that downtime are brought to a minimum because faults are immediately and accurately identified and the network restored speedily.

What type of equipment does FSB use?
FSB utilises Synchronous Digital Hierarchy technology with STM 64 capacity from a number of companies including Ericsson and Nortel and Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing technology.


What kind of technical support do you provide?
Fiberail’s has a National Control Centre (NCC), a centralised monitoring hub located at KTM Berhad’s main railway station in Kuala Lumpur, dedicated to providing customers with a support system 24x7, all year round.

Customers can also call the NCC Help Desk at 1-800-88-7635 to report on network outages. The NCC coordinates with the nearest Operation Centre (OC) to attend to network faults and remedy the situation in the fastest possible time.

Data collected pertaining to the fault is reported to the customer immediately and the NCC Help Desk provides updates on the status of the fault restoration every 30 minutes until the fault docket is closed.

The NCC is equipped with a state-of-the-art Network Management System (NMS) that monitors Fiberail’s integrated network. The NMS, complete with a “switch-over facility function,” incorporates the integrated network management functionality. It is able to detect faults along the trunk network instantly, allowing Fiberail’s highly skilled technical team to respond immediately.

Fiberail has 20 Operation Centres (OCs) located across its vast network. Their key functions include periodical systems and network management maintenance and fault restoration.
