About Us

Fiberail Sdn Bhd (Fiberail), incorporated in 1992, is a joint-venture company between Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM), Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) and now includes Petrofibre Network (M) Sdn Bhd with a share ratio of 54:36:10 respectively.

A “carrier’s carrier”, Fiberail is a licensed telecommunications service provider, granted the Network Facilities Provider Individual Licence (NFPI) and Network Services Provider Individual Licence (NSPI) by the then Ministry of Energy, Multimedia and Communications in 1995. This initial licence allowed Fiberail to operate within the railway corridor. In 2004, Fiberail was granted an extension to the licence, allowing it to operate to areas adjacent to the railway corridor, by the Malaysian Commission of Multimedia and Communications (MCMC). Two years down the road, Fiberail succeeded in extending its operating licence even further.  On 19th January 2006, MCMC granted Fiberail nationwide coverage.

KTMB has awarded Fiberail with a concession for exclusive usage of the railway corridor throughout Peninsular Malaysia.  Fiberail owns three fibre optic cable networks along the railway and gas pipeline corridors from Padang Besar in Perlis to Johor Bahru and branches out from Gemas in Negeri Sembilan to Tumpat and Rantau Panjang in Kelantan. The network passes through almost all major and rural towns in Peninsular Malaysia and is suitable for the conveyance of voice, data and video. Fiberail’s network coverage extends to the East Coast particularly to Pahang and Terengganu via the Petronas gas pipeline corridor.  With the gas pipeline corridor, Fiberail has the opportunity to tap customers in different geographical areas such as oil and gas companies located on the East Coast.

Besides reducing dependence on third party networks, the merged fibre optic cable network will allow Fiberail to provide a more resilient network and thus enhance its service level to the customers. The enlarged network will also help Fiberail reduce costs and provide additional services to its customers via a wider, protected, self-healing network under its own control.

Fiberail’s products and services encompasses leasing of:
 • Bandwidth services
 • Metro Ethernet
 • Wavelength services
 •

Ancillary services i.e. lease of tower and
cabin space
 • Turnkey network solutions

Customers include Telco providers, managed network service providers, global operators, discounted voice operators and broadcasting operators. Major customers include cellular and telecommunications operators such as DiGi, Maxis, Celcom, TM & its group of companies and also Petronas & its group of companies, which lease dark fibre optic cables, bandwidth and ancillary services from Fiberail.

With 20 operation centres (OC) nationwide, the National Control Centre (NCC) at KTM Berhad’s hub in KL and a 24-hour Helpdesk, Fiberail is able to cater to its customers’ needs effectively.

Fiberail was awarded ISO 9002 certification for company wide operations in 2000. The scope of certification is planning, development, operation and maintenance, business management and support services for the fibre optic network for telecommunications purposes and business development for new products.
